"Pity about the scarf-- Madame Nostradamus made it for me-- a witty little knitter. Never get another one like it--"
The Doctor, Ark in Space

Season 18

18There were a number of scarves made during the filming of the 1980 season of Doctor Who.

The pattern distributed by the BBC was the first one, originally designed by June Hudson and knitted by Roger Oldhamsted’s stepmother.

However, the others were slightly different.  All were hand knitted from chenille yarn.

One of these (the one I’m referring to as Version B) was on display at the Doctor Who Museum in Blackpool.

David Boyle was kind enough to allow me to examine it.

This scarf was apparently previously on display at Madame Tussauds’ as it appears on the Tom Baker dummy in the publicity photos for ‘The Five Doctors’.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of any additional Season Eighteen Scarves, please contact me!

I’m in the middle of knitting one and will be publishing my pattern and yarn suggestions very shortly!

How to do the selvage stitches on the Season Eighteen

The Season Eighteen has a very deceptive selvage stitch.

On the official BBC instructions it asks you to slip the first stitch of every row.

This is NOT correct.

The Season Eighteen has a a crochet slip stitch border.  That is, the scarf is knitted in garter stitch (knit all rows) and then a simple slip crochet stitch border is added to beef up the edge.

I have videos of this technique.
